A promotional photo featuring a Vorvon thralled Demeter's Captain and her Vorvon master (BR25: "Space Vampire").

The Vorvon thrall[1] is a victim rendered in a state between life and death, allowing them to be controlled by the Vorvon.

Upon feeding the life essence from the victim, the thrall exhibits an unhealthy discoloration of the skin emulating rigor mortis with two distinct lacerations, one at either side of a humanoid's laryngeal prominence, and appears deceased to all but the most advanced scientific instruments. Thralls are immobile and unresponsive until summoned, and even then can only act in the most basic ambulatory manner, unable to conjugate beyond simple moans and grunts.

Stun blasts from laser pistols are ineffectual against thralls, although they may be held at bay by the use of force fields.

In 20th century parlance, they are best described as "zombies."

2491

The Vorvon thralled William Helson restrains William "Buck" Rogers upon reentry to Theta Station from Demeter (BR25: "Space Vampire").

In 2491 CE, a Vorvon boards I.S. Demeter to face off against William Helson, the vengeful widowed husband whose family was fed upon by the Vorvon in 2486, to prevent the power lock that threatens the Vorvon's existence from being used. Following Helson's apparent death, Demeter's Captain believes Helson to be the first victim of the virus EL-7, as her crew "dies" around her exhibiting known symptoms of deadly virus; her last log entry notes her reaction to the Vorvon, as it feeds upon her unseen due to its ability to evade technological recording.

Demeter exits Stargate 9 on a controlled collision course that runs it aground into Theta Station and breaching its hull after the arrival of William "Buck" Rogers, Wilma Deering and Twiki, and the bodies of its crew are recovered and brought to Dr. Ecbar's sickbay. After Ecbar reports his findings to Rogers, the Vorvon drains Ecbar's life force (restrained by the thralled Demeter's Captain) convincing Commander Royko and most everyone else aboard that EL-7 is to blame. Deering and Rogers are unconvinced and pursue their investigation into other explanations, resulting in the Vorvon's summoning Ecbar and Demeter's crew (with Helson) to Demeter, where Rogers recovers the power lock from under the bed in Helson's cabin.

Rogers flees an attack by the thralled Ecbar, who slumps powerless to the floor in Helson's former cabin, but is ensnared by a thralled Helson flocked by Demeter's crewmembers. The Vorvon reveals itself to Rogers, who uses the power lock against the Vorvon; the Vorvon's thrall attempt to subdue Rogers and secure the lock, as they are unaffected by its power, but all withdraw after Rogers activates an emergency alarm. In the interim, the Vorvon or its thrall destroy Helson's servo drone, destroying all evidence of the attack that Twiki and Rogers had reviewed.

A trio of Vorvon thralled Theta Station security officers that William "Buck" Rogers and Royko later encounter (BR25: "Space Vampire").

Later, with Rogers thrown in the brig, the Vorvon converts Deering into an avatar, and she feeds upon various personnel in her attempt to feed on Rogers. Rogers is not deprived of the lock, using it on Deering who flees to her master. The now-convinced Commander Royko and Rogers pursue, and fighting against thralled security officers on his station while the Vorvon and Deering make their escape on Rogers' shuttle, which he had earlier sabotaged by programming it to a direct course through Stargate 9 to a known nearby star.

With the Vorvon destroyed in an overload from that star, the thralled persons from both Demeter and Theta Station return to their sentient, living state (BR25: "Space Vampire").

Notes

  • The duration of the Vorvon enthrallment remains unknown due to the lack of information regarding earlier victims prior to the Demeter incident. It is entirely possible that the stasis is part of a prolonged feeding process, where they are slowly drained until their cellular stasis expires, thus leading to the eventual termination of the victim.
